Asian Health Support Services
Asian Health Support Services (AHSS) is one of Waitemata District Health Board's (WDHB's) Clinical Support Services,
established to support WDHB services to deliver culturally appropriate, accessible, consumer-orientated and
effective services to Asian migrant and refugee communities.
Vision: to making a health difference
Mission: working together to improve the health status of Asian clients within the WDHB district
- deliver services that are more responsive, accessible and culturally appropriate for the Asian population
- collaborate with communities and other agencies to achieve better health outcomes, improve communication,
reduce inequalities and remove cultural barriers
- provide access to resources and interpreters for WDHB health practitioners
- provide cultural training for staff to improve cultural awareness
Asian is commonly referred to as people who come from Asia, including people coming from West Asia, e.g. Afghanistan,
Nepal, South Asia, covering the Indian sub-continent, East Asia covering China, North and South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong,
Japan, and South East Asia covering countries like Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam, Myanmar, Laos, and Kampuchea
